Why Oncore Exists: Ending VIN‑Lock Waste and Getting Cars Back on the Road

VIN‑locked electronics turn good parts into landfill and force shops into costly delays. Oncore resets eligible modules so they can be reused safely, documented, and programmed like new—cutting cycle time, cost, and e‑waste.

Modern vehicles are filled with intelligent modules, engine and transmission controllers, body electronics, steering and braking ECUs, lighting and infotainment. Increasingly, many of these are locked to a single VIN after first installation. If that vehicle is totaled or a module is replaced, those “married” parts won’t function in another car—and in some cases can even trigger no‑start scenarios when swapped. The result is predictable: delays, higher claim costs, and preventable waste.

Oncore’s purpose is to turn VIN‑locked parts back on. We use a secure, remotely operated bench process to reset eligible modules to a reusable state, validate function on rigs where needed, and ship with pre/post DTC logs and a test report for traceability. Renewed modules arrive not VIN‑programmed—they appear to the vehicle as OEM‑new and are ready for standard factory programming through OEM J2534 software.

We’re launching as a service‑first model, then scaling across three business units to maximize coverage and reliability over time: Oncore Tech (software, fixtures, and IP), Oncore Renew (remanufacturing & certification), and Oncore Logistics (insurer‑centric consignment and targeted parts flow). This approach lets us start small, prove quality, and add parts methodically.

Why it matters to the industry:

  • Shops get repairable solutions faster, with known procedures.

  • Insurers reduce supplement churn and parts spend.

  • Recyclers unlock value in inventory that used to be unsellable.

  • The planet avoids needless e‑waste—reuse beats recycling.

If you manage parts, claims, or inventory and want to help set the first wave of coverage, join our pilot list.
